ISO 20022 is the international XML-based messaging standard for financial transactions. Swiss banks fully migrated to it in November 2022, replacing the old DTA and EZAG payment file formats. If you submit payment files to a Swiss bank, you're using ISO 20022.
The most relevant message types for invoicing:
| Message | Description |
|---|---|
| pain.001 | Customer credit transfer initiation |
| pain.002 | Payment status report |
| camt.054 | Credit/debit notification (booking confirmation) |
eBill uses the pain.001 message structure for payment approval. Swiss banks migrated fully to ISO 20022 pain/camt messages by November 2022.
