The ESR (Einzahlungsschein mit Referenznummer), also known as the orange payment slip or BVR (Bulletin de versement avec numéro de référence) in French, was the dominant Swiss payment reference system for decades. It allowed creditors to reconcile payments automatically using a printed 27-digit reference number.
ESR was officially discontinued on 30 September 2022 and replaced by the QR-Rechnung (QR-bill). The 27-digit reference number logic lives on as the QR-Referenz in the QR-bill standard.
